We at Northminster Presbyterian consider mission to be central to our discipleship. Our mission work focuses on supporting families in need.
Our current on-going missions include:
Family Promise, a multi-church program to support homeless families with children, with food, housing, education, and emotional support. Northminster partners with Northshore Unitarian Universalists to host up to five families (14 people) at a time at their church. Our church members cook, eat, and spend time with families.
The Pearl River Feeding Ministry, another multi-church program to provide free food, no questions asked, to people and families who live in Pearl River, Lousiana. Every 5th Saturday, we take our turn to hand out food and prayers for people who need it. This ministry is in conjunction with Community Christian Concern of Slidell.
Northminster is the American sponsor of the Filipino-American Feeding Children Organization (FAFCO), which works in cooperation with Basilica del Santo Niño Children’s Welfare Foundation in Cebu City, Philippines (operated by one of the oldest and largest catholic churches in Cebu) to feed, clothe, and educate Fillipino orphans and street children.
In the recent past, we’ve housed a summer program for area kids where they could engage in fun activities and get the breakfast and lunch that they would get in school (if school were in session).
We also participated in a dinner, fellowship, and discussion group with men in transitional housing at Miramon Center in Slidell. (The Center is currently closed for renovations.)
